Publication1.pub2_001DSCN0074

Join us again for our third “All we stand to lose” journey around the seismic survey area!  Sunday, 21st August at 11 am from St. Aidan’s Hall, Shirdley Hill.  We will be going for a nostalgic journey around the survey area taking in all the lovely countryside that will turn into an industrial wasteland if fracking ever took hold!  We will also be raising awareness in Southport during the Flower Show when lots of visitors are in town.

It will be a fun, family event whilst getting our message out in the survey area!

“Rolled up” hearing – first step towards a full hearing Judicial Review of NYCC’s decision to allow Third Energy to frack KM8

NoSocialLicence-930x486

Following the decision by North Yorkshire County Council on 23rd May 2016 to grant permission to allow Third Energy to frack at Kirby Misperton near the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Friends of the Earth and local residents’ group, Frack Free Ryedale applied to the High Court for a judicial review of the NYCC decision.  FOE said:

The key reasons for pursuing legal action are:
•    The council’s failure to properly assess climate change. This is because the council did not consider the environmental impact of burning gas extracted to create electricity at a nearby power station in Knapton;
•    The council also failed to secure long term financial protection against environmental damage.

These are the main areas that have led us and Frack Free Ryedale to believe that the decision taken on 23 May was unlawful.

Despite the clear rejection of fracking by residents in North Yorkshire and by 99.2% of people who responded to the council’s consultation on the plans, the council voted on 23 May to allow Barclays-owned Third Energy to frack in Kirby Misperton, Ryedale.

The case proceeded to the “permission stage” and a Judge has now ordered a “rolled up” hearing to decide whether or not a full hearing should be carried out.  If permission is granted, the claim goes to a full hearing on its merits.  The “rolled up” hearing will be heard before the end of October!

There is a lot happening in the autumn that will affect our lives forever!

£10K TO BE FRACKED? DON’T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT!

“Don’t believe a word of what you read in the press!”  How many times have you heard that?  Well here’s why you shouldn’t believe the rubbish printed over the weekend that communities will get £10K per household if they drop their opposition to being “FRACKED”!  Unbelievable!

http://energydesk.greenpeace.org/2016/08/08/governments-fracking-payout-claim-just-not-true/

If fracking is good, if fracking is safe, then why would a government resort to “bribing” communities and individuals to accept it?

THE SURVEY IS COMING TO AN END BUT OPPOSITION IS MOUNTING FAST!

One step nearer20002

Tesla have advised West Lancashire Borough Council that all shot point firing activity was completed within the West Lancashire area covered by the survey on Saturday 6th August. They are now in the process of recovering the recording nodes.

However, the survey is not due to complete until 13th August so be aware!

Communities in the survey area are galvanising themselves into action ahead of any announcement that Aurora has applied for planning permission to carry out exploratory drilling.  Aurora have said:

“Should the survey be encouraging it is likely that Aurora will seek planning permission to drill one or two exploratory wells.”

We will be watching carefully for any application whilst continuing to raise awareness in all the communities that will be affected.  Opposition is mounting fast as communities have witnessed the seismic survey.

Many public meetings will be organised in the coming weeks!

OH WHAT A DAY (AGAIN!)

Sunday 10th July saw the launch of the Frack Free Kyak!

Great camaraderie on our “Everything we stand to lose walk” from local residents and from our neighbours who have already been affected or will be affected by the “dash for gas” in the future.

We are right in the heart of the very best agricultural land in the UK, if not the world!  And yet this Tory Government,  now in total disarray, is determined to frack mother earth into oblivion to “extract” the last vestiges of climate annihilating hydrocarbons!  Why are they not focusing on renewables, i.e. the only thing that will be left for our children, their children and their children’s children?  What do you think?  What’s the agenda?  Couldn’t be vested interest and lobbying by big dirty business could it?

EVERYTHING WE STAND TO LOSE WALK – Sunday 10th July 10.30 am from the Saracen’s Head canal bridge

We will be meandering along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal on Sunday 10th July, starting at the Saracen’s Head Bridge at 10.30 am along the edge of the seismic survey area to Lydiate.

What is the point?  We will be enjoying all the beautiful countryside surrounding us and taking a photographic record of all around us that we stand to lose if the seismic survey is “encouraging”.  In Aurora’s words:

“Should the survey be encouraging it is likely that Aurora will seek planning permission to drill one or two exploratory wells.”

Anyone wishing to show support please come and join the walk down “Memory Lane”.

OH WHAT A DAY AND MORE!

Farming not fracking20160702_111349_resized_120160702_112929

Over 60 residents gathered at very short notice on Saturday, 2nd July in Station Road, Barton to give Tesla and their masters, Aurora, a message!  The first of many messages to be delivered!  Tesla are keeping 24 hour security on the farm yard where they are based; the gate was shut but, after rousing choruses of “We shall not be moved”, we handed in two letters holding Tesla and Aurora responsible for any and all damage or trespass arising out of the survey.

The next event will be on Sunday, 10th July.  Maureen Mills, West Lancashire Borough Councillor for Halsall, will walk along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from the Saracen’s Head bridge to Lydiate.  The canal, a fantastic tourist attraction, bounds the seismic survey area down from Halsall to Lydiate.  Starting off at 1030 am.  Please come and cheer her on!
